FRENCH CLUB
At the French' Club's meeting on Thursday night there was an' interesting debate on the question: "Is tho Stage Desirable as a Profession?" There was a fair attendance -under tho presidenoy of Mr. 0. J. Cooke. The affirmative side of tho question debated was taken by Mdlle. Helene de Cleene; the negative, by lldme. De-chanet-M'lntosh. Thoy were supported respectively by Mdme. de Cleene and ■Mr. King. Those who took the affirmative relied mainly on the argument that actors affordod so much pleasure to such large numbers of people. They pointed out that our soldiers at the front had their lot occasionally lightened by a dramatic performance. Those who held the contrary view dwelt on the hardships of an aofcor's life, and quoted Shakespeare to show that he saw that such a life was tho reverse of desirable. The motion that the stage is undesirable as a profession was carried by a largo majority.
