MACHINE-GUN FUND
y 'A CHEQUE FOR £100. Mr. J. J. Boyd, of South Kilbirnio, called upon the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) yesterday, and after, expressing the opinion that the idea, of inviting subscriptions to buy machine guns, was really an admirable one, handed in a cheque for £100 to be devoted to that purpose. Mr. Boyd also intimated to the Mayor that if the gun his money would purchase would be brought back from the war, he wonld donate a. further £50. '
The latter provision is not likely to be taken advantage of, as the chances are that a large sum of money will be raised to buy many guns, which will not be identified in any way by bearing tho names of the donors of money. The main point is that machine guns aro badly needed wherever our troops are located, and if ready cash can accelerate the output of factories either at Homo or abroad, the fund is one that wealthy folk, firms, and house staffs might devote a mite of their earnings to. So far £150 has been subscribed in two amounts. . .
