A 3' oun g man named Henry Francis M'llroy was oharged.in t'he Ma«istrato'a Court, before Mr. L. 6. Ileid, S.M., yesterday, with stealing £4 from the person of John Edwards. Inspector Hondroy appeared for the police, and Mr. H. F. O'Leary for Accused. Edwards's story was that he met accused near the Royal Tiger Hotel. Later Edwards came up to the empty express opposite the Bank of New Zealand, and, securing the services of a constable, had M'llroy arrested when lio returned to bis vehicle. Constable Bovine gave evidence that after he arrested M'llroy he ordered liim to turn out his pockets. This M'llroy refused to do, but instead took £3 out of his pocket. Witness thereupon told M'llroy to come to Lambton Police Station, and tbei'e two £1 notes were found hidden in accused's underclothing, while there was only £1 and looso silver in his- pockets. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme' Court for trial. Bail was allowed in £50. OTHER CASES. Margaret Dobson was further remanded for a week on the charge of assaulting Henrietta Flegeltaub, so as to cause her actual_ bodily harm. Inspector Hondrey said that the woman alleged to have beon assaulted was still far from well, and would be unable to appear in the Court to give ovidence for soino weeks. On Mr. H. F. O'Lcary's application bail was renewed. John Graham, Who was arrested on Tuesday evening by Detective Abbott on a charge of failing to provide adequate maintenance for his child, was romanded to appear at Auckland on August 17. For drunkenness, John M'Kinnon (prohibited) was fined 405., in default 14 days' imprisonment. John Jflcob Scott lined 205., iu default seven days' Imprisonment.
