While a- British aeroplano was making a recounaisanco behind tile German lines in Belgium, shrapnel almost severed the pilot's legs. Holost consciousness, and his machine dived head foremost, then turned over and 'righted, as t'lie pilot' regained consciousness he obtained control of tlio machine again. _ \ Both the pilot aud the observer were saved from falling out through getting jammed in the mechanism. Tliey flew for thirty-fivo minutes on tlio back of the aeroplane and lauded safely. Tlio pilot_ sustained fifty wounds ill his leg, but is recovering.
