MOERAKI FROM SYDNEY. ShoTtly after 8 a.m. yesterday the Union Company's Moeraki arrived at Wellington from Sydney direct, and 'berthed at tho Queen's Wharf No. 6." She cleared Sydney at 1 p.m. on. Thursday—one day early—, and experienced'fine weather, with a good deal of rain towards the latter part of the trip... The Moeraki brought transhipments ex the following vessels:—Tongking, Camira, . Obra, Vinstia, Persic, Zealand!*, Van Cloon, and Changslia. Tho vessel sailed for Lytteltoii last evening, and will roturu hero in timo to leave for Sydney and Hobnrt at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
NEW SHAW-SAYILL LINERS. • The three now vessels now building for the Shaw, SaviU and Albion Company comprise the Mahaua (12,000 tons], Mahia 11,500 tons, Earanga (11,500 tons). Each vessel will be capable of carrying 150,000 carcasses of frozen, meat, and in view of tho urgent need of additional tonnage for the coming season, tho buildei'R are endeavouring to get the steamers completed as early as possible. Arrangements have practically been made for the Mahana to leave London in October for New Zealand, and the other two vessels should follow later. Including the three new vessels oa hand, the company's fleet now comprises nineteen vessels, of a total tonnage of 380,150 making the average tonnage, 9483.

She has been fixed to load timber at Nydia Bay for Sydney. R.M.S. Alakura arrived at Auckland from Sydney yesterday. She will continue her journey on to Vancouver, via Suva and Honolulu, at 10 a.m. to day. At noon to-day Messrs. BaDUatyne and Co. hope to dispatch the Defender from Wellington for Pictou and Hokitika. A projected departure from Wellington for London, via may ports, on Saturday,. •August 14, is the Now Zealand Shipping Company's Ruahinc. Tho Mapourika arrived (it Greyraouth from Wellington, via way pc-rts, at 7 a.m. yesterday, and was to have left en the return trip at- 10 ji.m. Running under the auspices of tho F. and S. Line, the New Zealand Snipping Company's Waimate is due at Auckland, from Liverpool, via way ports to-morrow. She is expected to arrivo at Wellington about August 16. Tho Government steamer Hincmoa will leave Wellington for Cook Strait lig-hts tlr? morning. Tho 0. and D. liner Clvalister, from New York, expected to arrive at Wellington either to-morrow or Thursday. At present the .U.S. and A. Line's chartered steamer Clan Farquhar i' loading at New York for New Zealand ports. She is cxpeoted to get away about the first week in September, via Panama Canal. An arrival at Melbourne with a cargo of timber from Grcymoutli on Saturday was the Union Company's Rak'nnoa. As soou as she completes discharge she will proceed on to Adclaido to load for Lyttclton, Wellington, and Naipier. ■ Bound from Loudon to Australia., the new lluddart-Parker steamer Ilclrburn should show up. at. Melbourne any time now. ... According to a Press Association ' message, the New Zealand Shipping Company's Tongariro. which is enroute from Wellington to London, via. the Cape of Good Hope, has arrived at Albany. About 5000 tons of cargo were brought from San Fraucisco to Auckland by the TJ.8.8. Co.'s Waimarino.
