K.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY L. HUGHES. .(By Telegraph'.'—Frcss~Assbciation.). '7 Christchurch, August 7. 'A sparrow match for the championship of New Zealand was fired on the Springston Gun Club's ground to-day. There were 39 competitors, and the v.-inner was L. Hughes, of Auckland, •who shot 20 birds out of '21. W. R. Donald (Irwcll) and F. Preese (Christchurch) tied for second placo with 19 kills, and divided second and thjrd money (£2B). Mr. Hughes's win carried with "it the champion gold medal and gun presented by the Colonial Ammunition Company, and £42 in cash. Other competitors who finished in the last round were: Messrs. F. Parker and H. J. Nit-z', 18 birds each; S. Watson, V. Powell, W. J. Moir, J. Tullet, W. R. Heney, and F. Whittle, 17 each; C. E. Brown and E. It. Gaulter, 16 each; and H. Raynor and F. Lopdell, 15 each.
