Captain, J. I). S. Phillips, of the Union Company's R.M.S. Makura, about two months ago completely his century run across • tho Pacific between Australia and British -Colombia, says tho "Shipping Gazette" (London). He started' his Vancouver service on the liner Warrimoo in June of 1893. and since that date has run steadily between Sydney and Vancouver. Captain Phillips lias'covered 1,520,030 miles between these two ports. In addition,, he has also covered 286,900 miles in. tho tmde between Australia and the United Kingdom; so that his total 6ea travel runs to 1,807,830 miles. The departure of the Chatham Islands steamer Himitangi for- Kaingaroa and Owenga wiU tako place at noon to-day. The vessel will'come direct back to Wellington on the Taturn journey.
