FOR COLONIALS BRAVE NEW ZEALANDERS By Telegraph—Press Association—Cony riglit London, August 5. Distinguished Service Medals have been awarded tho following New Zealanders:— Lance-Corporal Fear, for conspicuous gallantry on Juno 9 and 10 at Gaba Tepe, in volunteering to demolish a Turkish blockhouse within twelvo yards of tho enemy's trench, which could only bo approached over ground swept by machine-gun fire. Sergeant Fear exhibited great skill' in approaching and demolishing the blockhouse, and was exposed to firo for an hour. Sapper Hodges, for great gallantry on Juno 9 and 10, similar to Sergeant Fear's exploit. Private R. M'Leod, for conspicuous gallantry on May.B south of Krithia. Ho was ono of a party carrying ammunition to the advanced trenches luidor i heavy fire. Tho majority of the men woro unable to proceed, but M'Leod, although wounded on the leg, performed tho task and returned, and, not having reported that he was wounded, ho was again detailed to carry ammunition. which ho performed. Private F. O'Connor, on May 8, near Krithia, for distinguished services in the firing lino until severely wounded, losing tho right eye. He was previously twice wounded, and his gallant example was of great value. Privato G. AVilson, during the operations of May 8, south of Krithia, showed great gallantry in carrying important messages under fire. ARRESTED IN NEW YORK TRIBICH, TEE GERMAN SPY By .Tekfirapli—Press Association—Copyright London, August .5. Tribich, the German spy, has been arrested, at New. York on a chargo of forgery in England. DESPERATELY HARD-UP. (Rec. August 7, 0.40 a.m.) New York, August 6. Tribich had been desperately hard up for several weeks, and vainly offered American newspapers anti-British "copy." Ho feared to accopt an offer of a lecturing tour on behalf of the Germans. At. last he. was expelled as an undesirable alien. It is alleged that his forgeries involvo £1100. The warrant was taken out by Seebohm Rowntree. [Tribich is tho son of an Hungarian shipowner, and was elccted member for Darlington in the House of Commons in January, 1910, under the namo of Ignatius Timothy Tribich Lincoln, but was not a candidate in tho election of December, 1910. He was ordained in the Church of England in 1903, and became a naturalised Englishman in 1909, when, he took tho name of Lincoln, to assist in electioneering as _an anti-tariff reformer. During this campaign he took parties of working men to German, so as to exporience'lifo under protection. According to his story to tho Now York Press, Tribich, on the outbreak of tho war. conceived an abhorrence of England. Consequently he. was determined to act as a German spy, and was able to give Austria and Germany important information owing to his highly-placed friends in England, but he wished to bring off a coup. ■ Ho offered his services to Sir Edward Grey and Mr. AViuStcn Churchill, airl 'liiwl'y, by bringing rscf :l inforiimtion from Itvltcrdam, obtained f rom the Gcviran G.-nsul, ho won tho confidence of tho British Secret Service. Ho propounded a scheme for luring part of the British Flcot to a ccrtain bay, where tho Germans wore within easy striking distance, but tho Secret Service refused to disclose tho whereabouts of the British Fleet to anyone. Tribich described tlio codes whereby tho German spios transmitted messages to Germany, giving. particulars of tho movements of tlio Fleet.
