HUTT PARK COMMITTEE
: ' ■ The initial meeting of tho newly-ap-pointed Hutt Park Coiumittoo was held last evening, there being present: Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan, (J. Brocklebank, J. List, J. Brassel, M. Hodgins, and J. Hobbs. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. T. Pilchor. . Mr. J. W. M'Ewan was re-elected chairman of the committee. Colonel J. M. Gibbon wrote thanking the committee for its generous offer in tendering the use of-the park and buildings for. defence purposes, free of cost, and although it was not intended tc place men there at.present, the committee's offer would be placed on record. Tlie cEairman explained that upon learning- that the Trentham Camp was to be_ moved, he had on behalf of tho committee offered to accommodate a portion of the men at the park.: The action was approved. The Department of Lands and Survey, advised that His Excellency the Governor. had approved of the conditions Upon which the Park Committee proposed to invite tenders for the leasing of the trotting and training track at the park for a. period of IS years from May 1. : Conditions of the proposed lease of tlio park were submitted by the Hutt Valley Trotting Club, and discussed at considerable length. Finally, upon the motion of the chairman, it was decided to accept the offer, aiid the chairman, Secretary (Mr. W. J. Gardiner), and Councillor Hodgins were appointod to sign the agreement on behalf of the committee.
