CONSIDERED BY CITY COUNCIL. Tiio Tramways Committee of the City Council reported to tile council last night that they liad given consideration to tlio request of the Tramways Union, that the employees of tlio Department who are oil active service should be promoted to the position tlioy, would have occupied had they not beon away. The committee recommended that instructions should be given to the General Manager tliat in dealing with the moil who return from the front, their positions in the service should be as if they liad not boon away, always providing, in regard to conductors, that they did not take their places as motormen until they complied with the regulations, but that .their increments of salary should ho as if tlioy had been continuously in the service. The recommendation was adopted.'
