THE TURF

RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. (By TeleEraph—-Special Correspondent.! Christchurch, August 4. The following horses came down from Wellington by this morning's ferry steamer;—Bodenham, Ilurakia, Vi, Ngatoa, Nimblefoot, Golden Glow, Ngaraima, Black ITeartj Braeburn, Kuatangata, Prince Xaddo, Fortify, .Harbour Light, Naupata, George, Agatha Green, and Scrutineer. In comparison with yesterday, work at liiccarton this morning was very dull. There was very little interest displayed also, and visitors from the City could bo counted on the finger ends. The sand and tan tracks were both open, and on these several liorses got througli steady pacing, including Lady Louisa, Capthiu Giossop, Centi-e, Multiply, Kaminohe, Toki, Haskayne, Sam Pan, Countess Polstoi, St. Ewe, Cerrulus, Ingot, Morning, Vascular lluapani, Petrosus, Slogan, Sandy Paul, and Sir Donald.

Glenyar sprinted three furlongs on the tan, with a fair weight up, in 39sec. Daylight Bill and Cardiff were associated in a round over the country, but the former's display was not impressive. Ho took more than his usual risk at the first brush, and Scobie had a life, and at the next fence, the first of the brush double, lie again jumped rather gingerly. After that, however, he fenced well, and finished a good way ahead of his companion, who negotiated the country safely. The round took lmin. 57sec. Daylight Bill seems slightly sore again, and whether ho will survive the final payment is a matter of conjecture. Mr. D. Putherford was there to see the work, but the Stronghold gelding did not do as well as on previous occasions. • , Ikowai, with G. Fielding up, jumped the post and vails nicely, and was then eased up.
