ORE DEPOSITS NEAR THAMES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.? ■ . ' Thames, August 4. The deposit near Thames is now being prospected, and high-grade ore'secured and forwarded to Sydney. American experts from Australia, and Mexico examined ' the deposit, and are greatly impressed with the value and the possibilities. Since'the war the price of mercury has increased from £7 10s. per 751b. bottle to £18 per bottle.
- MURRAY OBEEIC COMPANY. Inj his report for the'month of July the mine manager o£ the Murray Creelt Company states:—The No. 2 winze has been sunk a further distance of 31 feet, making a to'tal of 131 feet from the intermediate level and 229 feet from No. 2 level. - The width of-the reef in the bottom is 5 feet, with neither hanging or footwalls in sight. At a depth of 126 feet both walls were showing, the reef at this point being 6 feet 6 inches wide. Gold is showing freely In tlie stone. No. 3 level has been extended 175 feet, making a total distanco of 451 feot.. There is about 138 feet still to drive to reach the point under the winze. jl'ho manager states that the reef in : the bottom of the winze is too strong, and well defined t» havo.ony doubt about cutting it in No. 3 level. The carting of the battery from the railway to the mine is expected to continue this week.
KOSS GOLDFIELDS. The mine superintendent of the Ross Goldfields reports as follows on the work at the mine fo-r the week ending July 29:— No. 2 east drive was continued 20 feet in pay wash making a, total progress of 571 feet from No. 2 shoot. At 554 feot No. 9 north drive was commenced, and advanced 10 feet in highly payable wash. No. 7 north drive was extended 19 feet in wash payable for 4 feet about the sollar bofvtls. Nos. 10 and 8 south drives at 28 feet and 31 feet respectively encountered the clay har. and blocking has been commenced cast and west of these drives at the junction of tho clay and wash. From the face of No. 6 south prospecting drive, which is now out 58 feot, it is intended to put a small test rise to determine tho extent and value of the wash now above tho drive. Blocking is proceeding ofE No. 3 south-west drive.
GOLD RETURN. The mine superintendent . telegraphed yesterday:—"Return 620z. 2d\\t. of gold from 960 • trucks." '
