THE POLITICAL SITUATION
CONFERENCE AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE. Tho following message was received from Government House last evening:— "The Governor desires it .to be known officially that ho has invited the Right Honourable tho Prime Minister and tho Right Honourable tho Leader of the Opposition, together with certain of i tlioir followers, to meet him at a conference on the political situation at Government House, Wellington. "His Excellency's suggestion has been readily accepted by both leaders, and tho conference will tako place on Monday (to-day) afternoon, August 2."
Seen, last night, the Prime Minister had no announcement to make as to the possible outcome of the National Cabinet proposals at this new stage of the proceedings. • A statement may bo mado after the conference baa . been held.
