Tho Prime Minister yesterday forwarded to' His Worship tho Mayor (Mr. J. P.' Luko) and to tho Mayors, of all cities and towns in tho Dominion tho following circular letter: — "Tho Government has received a request that New Zealand should co-oper-ate in giving offcct to tho proposal that on August 4 next, being the anniversary of tho outbreak of war between England and Germany, all parts of the British Empire should join in.' demonstrating its union, and determination. An identical resolution will be proposed to public meetings held on that day throughout Great Britain and its.- dependencies, and tho Government invites Your Worship to convene a public meeting to bo held in your (city or borough) on August 4, and to propose to such meeting the resolution which is in the following terms: —' That, on this anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, this meeting of tho citizens of —— records its inflexiblo determination to continuo to & victorious end the struggle in maintenance of' those ideals of liberty and justice which aro tho common and sacred cause of the Allies.' "- • The Prime Minister recently communicated with the heads.of all religious denominations in. New Zealand, suggesting that, following the examplo that .has oeen set in Great Britain, Sunday! August 8, should he. set apart in all the churches in this country as a day of prater for the success of our arms and the arms of our brave. Allies.. Mr. Massey has already received replies front most of tho denominations, expressing hearty concurrence with the suggestion, and stating that the churches will observe August 8 as ho suggests.. ■ •
