Australia, Now Zealand,' South , Africa, and Canada wore all great, free nations, possessing full sc-lf-governing_ rights. They had joined in the conflict for lovo of liberty and tho ideals of democracy, and the spirit of unity founded thereon had mado tho whole Empire single in purpose. There was also an intense conviction that war had been forced upon tho Empire, for in honour it could not stand aside and see a weak, unoffending people trampled in tho dust. "AVe all realise that the issue of tho conflict transcends even the destinies of our own Empiro; it involves the future civilisation and destinies of the world. Therefore we must not' fail." Sir Robert Borden's mention of Australia. New Zealand, and South Africa was greeted with cheers.
