The success achieved by the French, at Ban-de-Sapt, in the Vosgcs, was of considerable moral as well as material value. Tho number of French was comparatively small, but they, were called upon to act against superior numbers of picked men after a period of particularly trying operations, w'hicli might have been expected to leave them suffering from the effects of fatigue. The victory achieved furnished a definite proof of the French ascendency over the enemy. A leading .French military critio says that it is a proof that our soldiers are always in form, and guarantee that when tho operation is repeated simultaneously at various points along our front, the German resistance will bo broken.
