BUSINESS TO COME
TAXING BILLS IN SIGHT THE ADJOURNMENT. A' certain, amount of important business which must come'before Parliament this session has been postponed for a few days on account of the negotiations that liavo been iri progress in regard to the proposed National Cabinet, but it is expected\tliat the Financial Statement will come down on Tuesday evening, as announced by the Primo Minister' in the House yesterday. The War Pensions Bill, amendments to which have been referred to the Defence' Committee, will 1)0 dealt with by that committee ; to-day, the committeo having'obtained "leave to sit on. a day when the House is not sitting. Probably the Bill and the amendments will come before the Houso for tlieir final stages early next week. \ The Taxing Bills are now being prepared by the Law Drafting Offico, and will be ready, for introduction soon after the Financial Statement has been read' by the Treasurer. A number of members who live at a distance from Wellington approached Mr. Massey yesterday morning and asked that the House should adjourn from Thursday until Tuesday in order to give them an opportunity to visit their homes, probably the last opportunity that will ocour before the eud of the session. In view of the fact that so mnci} business has been done in a. very short time, without any serious delay, tlio Prime Minister agreed to the adjournment. Some'of the northern members left by the Auckland train last night, and a number of southern members left by the ferry steamer for Lyt- i telton.
Tho concert presented by Mr. Norman Aitken at the Sailors' Friend Society, last night met with unbounded applause. The performers were: Mrs. Silver, Misses JTardinfr-Maltby, Lissacks, Mario Fix, and Thelma Aitken, and 'Messrs. G. P. Williams, Lawrence, W. Keany, F. Eller, and N. Aitken. Mr. Aitken responded to a hearty -vote of thanks. Books were given to outward-bound crews and Mr. Moore, Missioner, would be grateful for gifts of mora book»- -
