TRENTHAM HOSPITAL.
Sir, —So much is appearing in the papers with reference to the care of tho sick at Trentham that I feel I am only doing my duty in stating the following facts:— On my return to the City after two days' absence, I was much shocked to hear that my youngest > son was seriously ill at Trentham Hospital. I at once made inquiries as to' whether it would be possible to have him removed (as I concluded -that. both doctoi'4 and nurses would have their hands fill), in order that he might have mors careful attention at homo, and at the same time to relieve the authorities to some extent. I then visited the Trentham Hospital, and found that my son was with meningitis. Ho was rot located in a dungeon under the grandstand, but, was in a good I'uildiug with' plenty of windows j I think the building being that which is used by the trainers during their stay at Trentham, and I was given to understand that all men-, ingitis patients were located in the same premises. I told my son ihat I was endeavouring to have him brought home, but he stated' that ho was all right there, and was being well looked after' both by doctors and nurses, who were ~all very kind and did all they could for him. I asked tho doctor in attendance whether he would object if I got my family doctpr to visit my son. He willingly -gave permission. On my return to the Lower Rutt I at once saw my medical adviser, and requested him to visit my, son. Ho kindly did- so, promptly, and reported that he was in a good position in the building "and was receiving every attention from both doctors and nurses, and advised that lie should remain at Trentham till after the danger stage. I visited Trentham yesterday, and found the ■ meningitis patients had been removed to the tea kiosk; to my mind, a very excellent building, and the majority of the patients seemed to be doing 'well. I may add that some members of -j y .family have visited Trentham nearly every day since we were notified of iny son's illness, and have been more than pleased with the attention shown to him, and I wish to express my thanks to ■ the medical men and nurses who are m attendance.—l am, etc., W, L'ROWN.
