FOUND ON PREMISES

Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., t presided at yesterday's sitting of tho Magistrate's Court, tho hearing of eases extending into the afternoon. Richard Dunn, alias Deiiham, was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond because of the fact that he had been, found by night without lawful excuse on the premises of M'Leod, Weir, and Hopkirk. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to a month's imprisonment with ford labour. CHARGES OF THEFT. On the application' of Inspector Hcndrey, Eugene-Francis M'Carthy was. remanded for a week on a charge of theft of goods from somo person, unknown. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for M'Carthy, who was admitted to bail in the sum of £25, and two sureties of £12 10s. each. ,T. Nidd, for whom Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared, was brought up on summons to answer a charge of theft of lis. 6d., the property of Blake and Co. Ho was fined £1, and ordered to refund tho amount of lis. 6d., and to pay witnesses' expenses Bs. Default was fixed ai three days' imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. Henry James Burns, who had been arrested in Gisborne, was sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment for disobedience of an order requiring him to maintain his wife. The Magistrate mado an order for the warrant to be suspended while the sum of 15s. per week is paid, together with a weekly sum of 2s. 6d.; to reduce the arrears. Defendant was further ordered to pay one guinea solicitor's fee. ( A sentence of two' 1 months' imprisonment was imposed on Joseph Kenny, who was charged with disobedience of. a maintenance order. The warrant is to be susper.ded so long as Kenny pays Bs. per week—the amount of th 9 order —and a further weekly sum of 2s. fid. in reduction of the arrears. For disobedience of a maintenance order, Agnes Wright Learmouth was sentenced to fifteen days' imprisonment, the sentence not to be carried out so long as the sum of 3s. per week (amount of the order) is paid, together with a further weekly sum of 2s. 6d. per week in reduction of the arrears. Patrick Kennedy was sentenced to eight days' imprisonment "for failing to. comply with the terms of a,maintenance order, tho warrant to be suspended if the amount of the arrears (£8 155.) is paid forthwith. - Joseph Sidney Reed was ordered to pay the sum of 13s. per week towards the maintenance of his wife. He was also ordered to pay £1 Is. solicitor's fee. Mr. A. W. Blair appeared for tho complainant, while Mr. R. Kennedy appeared for the. defendant. - OTHER CASES. .' Edward Robinson, charged with using, obscene language on July 12, .was con-, vict-ed and ordered to come up fon sentence when called upon. ; For using obscene language, James Enright was fined 205., tho alternative being three days' .imprisonment. The same accuscd was convicted, and discharged for drunkenness. Nine first-offending, inebriates wer®; also dealt with. .... Having entered tho Princess Theatre Hotel during tho currency of a prohibition order against him, Georgo Henry Parkinson was fined.los., with costs '7s. 1 To-day at 1.80 p.m. sharp, Messrs. C. W.
