Ho 3ias been asked 1 to bring a sergeant-major with him to i instruct ambulance men. / The Now Zealand Natives' Associa- ' tion Band, somo time known as tho Wellington Garrison Band, gave an ex--1 cellent concert in His Majesty's ' Theatre last night. The. items played by the baud were:—March, ''The Olym- ' 'plan" (Brown), selection, "L'Elisir 1 d'Amour" • (Donizetti), intermezzo, "Iola." 1 (Johnson), -and quick-step, "Fearless" (Greenwood). 'As appears from the items the' music was varied in character, and it was played in such fashion as to win the applause of the crowded audience in the big theatre. The only other instrumentalist was Master B. O'Brien, i a boy violinist of undoubted .promise. Sir. It. S. AUwright and Mr. Laslett Ex ton'were tlio vocalists. ' Mr. Allwright was in good voice, but Mr. Exton was suffering from a cold so severo that lio would have been wiser not to liave kept his engagement.. .

An allowance is made of Gd. on all used Challengers.— Ailvt. . • > \ A crowded meeting was held at tho People's Picture Palace last night to protest against the severity of the sentence passed upon Alice Parkinson by Sir Robert Stout. Mr. H. E. Holland was the principal speaker. Mrs. Donaldson was in the chair. Mr. Holland traced the history of the case ; and in conclusion he moved the following resolution, which was carried unanimously: "That this meeting of Wellington citizens endorses the movement for the release of Alice Parkinson, and pledges itself to do a,U that is possible to make tho forthcoming public demonstration an unqualified success."
