The death' occurred at Carterton on Thursday of Mrs. Kemp, wife of Mr. T. Kemp, -a. very old settler of the district. The' lato Mrs. Eomp-was very widely known and universally respected throughout the district for her hind disposition. In her younger days, the late Mrs. Kemp took an active interest in all social affairs, and was a prominent member of St. Mark's Church. In later life she had not enjoyed; the best of health, and during tho past twelve months had been ailing, so much so that the greater part of the time had been spent in bed. Prisoners in Morocco are compelled to pay the officers for their trouble in arresting and escorting them to gaol. This plan makes the. police watchful and nlways alert for business.
