CIVIC AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
At the ordinary fortnightly meeting of the City Council on Thursday, tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and there were also present: Councillors J. E. Fitzgerald, W. T. Hildreth, T. Bush, W. H. Bennett, L. M'Kenzie, J. Hutcheson, J. Godber, G. Frost, John Fuller, jun., M. F. Luckie, A. R. Atkinson, R. A. ; Wright, and W. H. P. Barber. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided that the rent for weighing machine stands in the city be reduced from £5 to £4 per-anmim. It was also decided that tho request of the Workers' Educational Association of New Zealand for a grant of £100 towards the work of the Wellington Centre bo granted for tbo current year. Instructions wero issued to the City Solicitor to draft an amendment to Clause 61, Sub-Clause 15, of tho City By-laws (against leaving vehicles on the I public street unattended), so that the clause will not apply to motor vehicles. Authority was given for a street lamp to ho erected at tho top of tho Zig-zag, between Harold Street and Raroa lload, Kclburn, and the Electrical Engineer was granted authority to remedy the lighting at the extreme end of Hanson Street South, should lie, consider same necessary.
On the, recommendation of the Bylaws Committee it was decided that flags or signs be not permitted to proect over the street, and l that the exhibition of signs be entirely confined to the face of the buildings, as required by the Municipal Corporations Act.
