HUGE EXPENDITURE ON RAILWAYS.

The Assembly passed tho second reading of the City Railway Bill: Mr. Cann, Minister of Works, in explaining the measure, said they were adopting a uniform electrified underground system which would meet all demands for tho next forty or fifty years, ivith provision for expansion. He also proposed to electrify the suburban railways at a total estimated cost of £7,000,000, on which tho annual interest charge would bo £315,000..
