TURKISH FORCES ROUTED By Telegraph—Tress Association—Copyright London, July 22. The Press Bureau reports: Owing to rumour's that hostile tribesmen were in the vicinity of Bnshire, Major Oliphiuit and 'Captain Ranking (assistant political officer), ivitli a mixed patrol, on the 12th reconnoitred and fell into an ambush. The enemy was well concealed. Both tile British _ officers were killed, also a- ; sepoy, whilst two others were wounded. The tribesmen disappeared. Turkish forces, which have threatened Basra, ha?e been entrenching at Suk-esh-Sheyut and Nasiriyet, on the Euphrates. Our force, in spite of determined resistahcOj drove out the enemy,' capturing seven Turkish officers, eightythree regulars, and some Arabs. Our casualties were twenty-live killed and eighty-four wounded. The Turks Tetired below Nasiriyet, from where they made several attempts to dislodge -us, but were easily repulsed. AVo launched an attack on the 13th against tho enemy's flank. The 24th Punjabis encountered unexpected resistance, and suffered considerable loss. The operations are progressing.
