• The Mayor of Hastings has received £5 13s. towards the General Botha Fund. ■ Mr. A'. E. Renouf, Napier's patriotio auctioneer, has received a telegram from Mr. Whatman, of Masterton, asking him to conduct a patriotic auction there on August 4. Mr. Renouf has consented. A petition in bankruptcy ■ has been filed by Albert Oswald Gray, clerk, of Hastings. The liabilities amount to £50 18s. lOd. The unsecured creditors include the following Wellington firms : — Dimond and Hart, £3 2s. 6d.; Accountancy and Educational Publications, 12s. 6d.

Among the passengers for London by the Tongariro are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Whiteman, of Wangamii, vrho are going Homo to.offer their services to the War Office.
