Mr..-W.' Reid, mate of the Opawa, has signed off that vessel's articles. Captain W. Dieley has taken charge of ,the Opawa. vice Captain W Nicholas, who has come ashore on. account of ill-health.
Mr. A. Sltene-Smith, late .wireless cpera. to. of the Maori, has joined the Tarawara in -a similar position, vice Mr. W. E. Long, who has.been granted holiday leave. Mr. C. Silbey, late of R.M.S. Niagara, is now wireless operator on the Maitai, with ■ Mr. 0. Gilmour as junior operator.
New Plymouth cargo will be taken from' Wellington by tho Kowhai to-day.
The Union Company's Monowai ■ will arrive at . Wellington from Dunedin direct to-morrow morning, and will relieve the Pateena iu the Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service.

The C. and -D. liner Indrapura arrived at Wellington from London, via Australian ports. Aucldand, and Napier, yesterday morning. After landing 1023 tons of car.go here,, ths vessel will proceed on to Lyttelton on' Tuesday, thence Brisbane.
From Port Chalmers the Shaw-Savill liner Athonic will go, o:i to Gisborne to-morrow. Her next'ports of" call will.be Napier and Wellington. .'.
The New Zealand Shipping Company's Kaikoura was scheduled to leave Liverpool for New Zealand ports on July. 21. Sho is coming but under the "auspices of the F. ana S. Line.' ■ Continuing her journey from 'New York to New Zealand, the 0 and D. liner Wliakarua is reported to have left Panama for Auckland on July 7. She is duo there about July 29. Latest advices state that R.JI.S lonic i's duo at Auckland about August 24, and at Wellington a week later. On account of having been delayed at Wellington' by bad weather, tho Moeraki will not bo dispatched from this port for Sydney direct till 3 p.m. to-morrow. Duo at Auckland on Sunday from Wostport., the Navua is .timed to sail for Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa at noon, on Monday. Owing "to bad weather the vessel lias suffered delay outside Westport. A projected departure from Batavfa yestorday was the Union Company's Wailiora. Sho is proceeding to Calcutta to load for New Zealand ports.
With about 1600 tons of San Francisco cargo oil board, the. Union Company's Waitemata is due-at Wellington from' Auckland on Sunday. On Wednesday next, the vessel will proceed on to Lyttelton to take in produce for Sydney. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise -Jiat tho Defender will be dispatched for Hokitika from Wellington.on Monday afternoon. The decision ■ of the New Zealand Shipping Company to make Auckland the first port of call for its next six steamers leaving London was the subject of further inquiry from the Auckland manager of the company.. Mr. C. V. Houghton (states the "Herald") He stated that the new policy has been partly brought about by tho shortage of tonnage. It is a matter of economising time and tonnage on the coastal r : un, and with the view of turning the ships round as quickly as possible. Unider the new arrangement .shippers will get the benefit of time-tablo boats. There was no doubt also, Mr. Houghton said, that Auckland's trade had expanded, and this was being realised in London. No advice has been received at the local office of the Slvaw, Savill, and Albion Company of any similar deoision on the part of that company. . . R.M.S. Makura., which is en route from Vancouver to Auckland and Sydney, was due at Suva to-day. Sho is expected to arrive at the northern port on Sunday.
