PLIGHT OF THE BENALLA
A WIRELESS MESSAGE

A wireless message from the Benalla, received last night, stated that tho position of tho vessel at 8 o'clock in tho evening, was 38deg. 49min. south and 42deg. llmin. east. She was steaming at fourteen knots north-westward. The Otaki '.ras in touch with her by wireless, 130 miles distant.
(Rec. July 22, 10.15 p.m.) □urban, July 22. The Benalla is making for Durban, escorted by the Otaki. Owing to wireless difficulties there are no details of the fire. CTho P. and 0. >teanier Benalla (11,118 tons), was one of the boats recently ongaged to load meat in New Zealand. Sho has a capacity for 65,000 freight carcasses. The vessel, with the Cufic, was duo to load at the end of August or tho beginning of September.]
