OUR MISSING MEN

ARE THEY PRISONERS?

'K question put by Mr. C. J. Parr (Eden) to the Minister of Defence (the Hon. Jas. Allen) in Parliament yesterday was whether the Government had taken any steps to ascertain the names of New Zealand-prisoners in the hands of the Turks at Constantinople? It ,would be a great relief, lie'said, to the parents of those soldiers designated as "missing" if they knew whether tho men were prisoners or not.

In replying, Mr. Allen said tliat the' Government had taken every step they could. They had telegraphed l to the 'Army Council, and lie thought His Excellency the Governor had telegraphed to the Secretary of State. The'latest information to hand was that, under international law, a Bureau had been set up at Constantinople, under the ad-ministration-of the United States. 'So far. the New Zealand Government had only received information of one prisoner _in Constantinople. They had asked time ; and again for particulars, and ho presumed they would get them in Sue course.
