The Germans intended to raid the English coast, but observers warned tho British aviators, who attacked in. pairs, cutting off their retreat. Thousands of; spectators saw two Taubes plunge into the sea. The following day boats found a German machine, with its occupants strapped to their seats, and bullet 'holes in. their heads. A fourth Taube was also reported to have been lost.
