. 0 SERGEANTS AND DETECTIVES.. 'The'status* of uniform" sergeants of tlio Police Force, and. members of tlio detectives' branch was touched on terday by tlio Minister of Justice (tlio Hon. A. L. Herdman) in reply to Questions put by Mr. J. A.' Hanan (Invercargill). Mr. Herdman said that instructions were issued some tiinq ago defining the relative position of uniform sergeants and members of the _deteotivo branch of the Force, but it had since been found that it was difficult to give effect to these instructions without doing injustice to the members of' the uniform branch. With a view to permanently uniting the two branches of the Service the status of detectives in relation to tlio uniform branch was at present under consideration, and detailed information upon the subject was being obtained from the various Australian States.
