MEMBERS' "EXPLANATIONS." ''

, When the House of Representatives met yesterday afternoon, Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh (Wellington South) made a personal explanation as to an occurrence in the early hours of Tuesday morning. In the heat of the debate, and concerning what he hardly thought a proper remark, he made a reflection upon the member for AVairarapa. It had been pointed out to him that it was likely to be taken literally in a senso ho had never intended. He wished to assure tho 'member for Wairarapa that the remark was intended in no objectionable -way, and in so much as it might be taken as objectionable 110 unreservedly withdrew

Mr. J. T. M. Hornsby (Wairarapa) said that if lie said anything that aroused tho honourable gentleman's feelings he was very sorry. In the course of the speech made by tho Leader of tlie Opposition lie had interjected "Rubbish!" Ho wanted to say his remark was not meant to refer to what his loader said, but was meant to apply to the idea that what he conceived to be proper compensation could not be given to the troopers.
