A NATIONAL CABINET
NO CONCLUSION YET. The negotiations in regard to tho proposed National Cabinet do not appear to have been brought to a finality by the further discussion of the Government's amended proposals, which took place at a caucus of the Opposition Party yesterday morning. The meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half, was attended by all the members of the party, with tho exception of Messrs. Hornsby and J. C. Thomson.
No official report of the caucus was issued, and the members who wero present arc very rcfcicent as to the result of the meeting. It is understood, however, that the proposals of tho Government wore rejected by the vote of a majority of thoso present, but that the negotiations between the party leaders have not yet been broken off.
Sir Joseph Ward had a conference last evening with the Prime Minister, but both leaders on being applied to subsequently for information said that they had no statement to make, and they were unable to say when the public were likely to be enlightened 011 the subject. 'It is reported, however, tiiat negotiations are being continued, and the supporters of coalition appear to bo still hopeful that something may como of the prolonged negotiation's which have now extended over a period of threo weeks.
