WOUNDED SOLDIERS IN EGYPT

HOW, GIFTS MAY BE SENT. An officer who frequently visits the wounded and convalescent New Zealand troops in Egypt suggests in a private letter just received, in Wellington that a supply of New Zealand Sturmer ■apples would be greatly appreciated by the convalescents. .

In the same letter the'writer; in acknowledging, receipt of a box of New Zealand butter sent to him for his own use by his friends in New Zealand, makes the significant remark that it was immediately handed over to one of tho hospitals where tlie New Zealand troops were located, "hecaus® those'poor fellows need it more than. 1 do."

. Gifts of apples or butter should bo addressed to the New Zealand Commissioner for Hospitals, co.o Headquarters Staff, Alexandria, and if they aro addressed in this way and sent to Captain Bilton, No. 3 Shed, Wellington, they will be duly forwarded.

■In House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. G. Witty (Riccarton) asked the Minister of Defence whether he would instruct his officers to be'more careful in sending out Territorial notices to attend drill. A notice had been sent out to E. M. Manson at Riccarton, notifying him to attend drill. That man joined the Expeditionary Force in August last, and was killed in tho Dardanelles in April, and yet notices were being sent out requesting him .to attend the Territorial'drills. The parents felt it very keenly, especially as they had notified the officers that tho boy was at tho war. . That was not-the only, case, for a similar one had occurred in his district. A footnote was also put to the notices that the rifles and uniforms should be returned, and yet neither of thoso young mon had had a rifle or uniform from the Department when tlie.v were Territorials; one had only attended two drills before he left. Mr. Allen: "Let mo have the particulars, ' and I will inquire into it-" .

Messrs. W. and G. Turnbull and Co. advertise particulars. of the entries for their Mni'tinboi'ough stock sale on July 22, and their Masterten sale at the Waipoua yards to-day.
