Robert Muirliead was on tho information of liis wife charged in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday with following and molesting her while a separation order was in force. Mr. P. W. Jaclcson appeared for defendant. "Stand up," said tho Magistrate sharply to defendant at the conclusion of the evidence. "You are liable to a fine of £20 or tliree months' imprisonment for this offence. 1 wont impose any penalty this time, but if you. come before me again I will drop on you very heavily. Now, remember." Muirliead was thus cautioned and discharged, and on a further charge, of disobeying a maintenance order was sentenced to six days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 30s. weekly." Alexander Law Duncan, for whom Mr. 15. J. Eitzgibbon appeared, applied for the variation of a maintenanco order against him. Mr. P. W. Jackson opposed the application on behalf of applicant's wife. After hearing tho evidence, the Magistrate decided to reduce tho previous order to £2 per week. On a charge of disobeying the old order Duncan- was sentenced to, six days'imprisonment, the warrant to be put into execution only if defendant failed to pay 40s. per week.' Penalties were imposed as mentioned on the following for disobeying' maintenance orders Frederick Blacklidge was sentenced .to three months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of 16s. a .week; 'William Motlay, sentenced to four' months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of 12s. weekly; Harry Fitzmaurice, ten days' imprisonment, warrant to. be suspended on the payment of 10s. a week, and £9 125., costs forthwith; Benjamin Ede, two days' imprisonment, warrant to be suspended on payment of 2s. 6d. weekly; Edgar Joyce; three days' imprisonment, warrant to be suspended on payment of 7s. 6d. a week.
The application by Alexander Tliomas M'William for the variation of a previous maiatenance order against him was dismissed.
"WEEK-ENDERS.". Eighteen "week-enders" who had celebrated the Saturday unwisely filed into the dock to answer charges of drunkenness. Kate Brady (prohibited) and Alfred Seth&r were each lined 205.,' in, default three days' imprisonment, while William Parker, James . Kerr, William Almond, and Jeremiah Looney were each fined 10s., or 48 hours' 1 detention. Twelve first offenders were leniently dealt with. Andrew Soutter, who was; arrested for drunkenness on Saturday, and released on bail, only to be again arrested for a similar olfence on - Sunday, was lined 10s., with an option of 48 hours' gaol on tho first charge, and 205., or three days, on tho second. A soldier named Charles Carter admitted being drunk, and disorderly in Ghuznee Street, and wis fined 205., in default three days in gaol for tlie offence. Ho was also ordered to bo handed over to the military authorities.
