R. J. Strutt (Professor of Physics, Kensington College of Science).

KITCHENER'S NEW ARMY IN FRANCE THEIR BAPTISM OF FIRE. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright (Rec. July 19, 10 p.m.) • London, July 19. Mr. Phillip Gibbs, writing to -the "Daily Chronicle" from British headquarters, quotes a sergeant-major's opinion that Kitchener's Army in France are a very cheerful lot of men. "They have been working hard l for tor. months, and now you couldn't find a better regiment. You'll find plenty of hot-heads, but no cold feet."

Mr. Gibbs adds that the now army has received its baptism of fire by being led into the danger zone by easy stages. The regular officers have never seen soldiers of finer physique or stouter quali-; ties. .
