iWithi almost dramatic suddenness, the German offensive in Northern Poland has definitely assumed the character of a determined mov# to reach Warsaw, and the latest developments of the operations' by the various armies are disclosed in the news from the Eastern theatre to-day. An intense battle has also developed further south, between the Vistula and the Bug, while important operations are being carried oat in the Baltic Provinces; The military situation in the Western theatre is unchanged. In tho Austro-Italian theatre the Italians are developing their investment of Gorizia. The Pope has protested to Austria against the air bombardment of Bari. Fighting is proceeding in Gallipoli, where an attack along, the whole line is reported to be in progress. The Turks are said, in one quarter, to have received important consignments of war stores via Bulgaria, while from another source'it is stated that all railway communication between Turkey and Bulgaria has been stopped. Tho great colliery crisis in South Wales i 6 still acute, and'the miners are still on strike.
