CARNIVAL AT SAMOA
£350 FOR HOSPITAL SHIP FUND. (By TeleKrapli—Press Association.' Auckland, July 19. Samoa has made a considerable contribution towards the New Zealand Hospital Ship Fund, a sum of over £350 having been collected and forwarded by the Tofua, which arrived at •Auckland yesterday. A Carnival was held in Apia on July 10, a procession in the morning being followed by a cricket mateh between teams representing the military ' and civil community. There was also native dancing and other sports. On the previous evening a successful concert organised by tho garrison forces was held. The sale of seats for the entertainment by auction earlier in the week contributed about £270 to the amount, raised altogether.
A big sale at Newtown is the announcement by Trask and Traslc, 81 Riddiford Street, Newtown, who are selling the whole of their winter stock of ladies and children's -underclothing, dresses, etc., at 50 per cent, under., cost.
