Paris, July 16. _ 'A' communique states:' "Tho Germans in Lorraine attacked on'a front' of tlirce kilometres (one and three-quarter miles) the positions they lost at Leintrey, and simultaneously bombarded the whole front line from the forest of Champenoux to the river Yezouao, making isolated infantry attacks. They, were everywhere repulsed. \ A body of attackers advanced to our barbed wire entanglements south-east of the forest of Parroy, but were dispersed • with heavy loss. Two German attacks at Hauto Chevaucheo Yoie JRomaine and Boureuilles were repulsed. There was quiet elsewhere. ' &IRMEN DESTROY A GERMAN AMMUNITION- DEPOT. Amsterdam, July, 16. A' commuiriquo states: "The alleged German success ,in tho Argonno was really a failure to break otir- front. . It is untruo that our field guns were captured or put out of action. Tho German losses were considerable." [A Berlin communique published on' July 15 stated: We captured Frcncli trenchcs on a front of 1100 yards north-east of Vienne-le-Chateau, making prisoner 137 men. We stormed a position on a height south-west of the Bourneuilles front three kilometres (one mile and three-quarters) in depth, and one kilometre (five-eighths of a mile) at La Fille Morte, known as Height 285, is nowin our possession. We made prisoner 2581 unwounded French, also"300 or 400 wounded, and captured ten guns. Our troops advanced into the position held by the French artillery, putting eight guns out of action, which are now ' between, the German and the Frcncli lines.] iVIOLENT ATTACKS ON THE HEIGHTS OF ; THE MEUSE, (Rec. July 18. 11.30 p.m.) Paris, July 18. Official.—There was no infantry action in the Argoiihe. The Germans made a violent attack on the heights of the Meuse against our positions from Calonne trench to Les Eparges, and only succeeded in regaining a footing. in one trench section; which we captured on July 6. Some parties of Germans who crept into a ravine were killed or made prisoners.
