DOCTORS FOR SERVICE

.•■ :. •" 0 : GOING TO AUSTRALIA a . j: Mr. W. H. Field asked tho Minister of Pifblio Health (the Hon. R. H. Rhodes) in the House yesterday whether it was true that doctors were leaving New Zealand to join the Australian: Forces in consequence of difficulties with the. health authorities here. He was informed by a well-known member of the Medical Association that two doctors were going to Australia at once, and that the Medical Association had no information as to what the Government's intentions were regarding the proposal to send 100 doctors Home to join tho R.A.M.O.' . The Hon. R. H. Rhodes said he was not awaro that medical men were leaving to join the Australian Reinforcements. He knew that New Zealand would require a large number of doctors for her own Reinforcements before June iiext,'and he had asked 1 Colonel Purdy, Director of- Medical Ser/ices, to inform all the officers ho was likely to require before that time. He had also asked Dr. Valintine to inform him as to the number that could be spared to join tho R.A.M.C. in England. The Government did not wish to keep these men if they could be spared l , but he thought the first duty of doctors was to our own Reinforcements. Mr. Field: A meeting of the Medioal Association was held, last night, and they had no information. Mr. Rhodes: It ;is the Medical 'Association's fault if they have no information. I endeavoured to find out from them how many men we, can spare, and L have had no information from them.
