THE AUSTRALIAN NURSES' NEW:ZEALAND'S TIMES. . Tho-Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. ■ The Hon, W. BEEHAN gave notice to move that the Government be requested to take into consideration the advisability of recommending that members of the Council who had retired or resigned after ten years'- service should be entitled , to retain tho title of and their railway pass- ! THE HON. W. K. NIKORA. SIR FRANCIS .BELL moved that the Council record its high sense, of the services rendered to Now Zealand by tho late Honi W. K. Nikora, and that the sympathy of 'the Council be extended to his widow and family. He said that Mr; Nikora, was born in 1853, his father, William Nicholls, having arrived in New . Zealand by the Aurora, which landed her passengers and freight on Petone beach in 18'10. Mr. Nicholls, sen. ,had settled lat Tauranga, and married the daughter of. a famous Maori family. The late Mr. Nikora had followed the occupation of farmer, and also he lad been a land agent and a Native' interpreter. When the. Qhinemuri. County was separately constituted, Mr. Nikora, was returned as member for Paeroa. He sat as a ' member! of the Council 'for nine years, and for five years ho was chairman. In 1913 he was appointed to the Legislative Council and had won the respect and esteem of every member. of tho Chamber. ■ < 1 .The Hon. C. A. C. HARDY said that tlie deceased was'one" of Nature's,noblemen."' .Mr. Nikora had shown a very gfeat interest in the Native' race, and had'don© much good for his people. The Hon. C, H. MILLS and the Hon. .W." BEEHAN also added their tribute to the memory of the' late member. The Council adjourned for the day at 2.45 p.m., out of respect for the death of the. late Hon. W. K. Nikora.
