: ' i —— WELLINGTON DIOCESAN COUNCIL. Tho annual meeting of the Wellington Diocesan Council of the 'New . Zealand Catholic Federation was held- at St. Patrick's HaU, Boulcott' Street, yesterday. His Grace Archbishop Redwood presided over the preliminary stages of. the meeting, and the delegates from tho several parish committees were as under:—Dannevirke, Rev.-Father' Bowe, Messrs. D. J, O'Sullivan, A. Parker; Foilding: Rev. Father O'Dyycr, Messrs. P. Kavanagh and M'Meniunin'; Upper Hutt: 'Hev. leather Daly; Hastings: Rev. Father M'Donnell, Mra. M. C. Goulter, Mr. J. A. Gallagher; Masiterton: Mr. B. Chapman; New Ply-' mouth: Mr. W. "f.- Jennings, M.P.; Napier: .Rev. Father O'Sullivan, Mr. M'Namara; Levin: Messrs. J. Duggnn and R. Sievcrs; Petone: Mr. P. E. Cairns; Pahiatua: Rev. T. M'Kenna, Messrs. J. P. Beech, E. Sullivan; Palmerston: Mr. Graham ; Taihape: Messrs. R. C. Ongley and F. M'Laugluin; Wauganui: Rev. Archbishop Redwood welcomed tho dele? gates to the council meeting, and expressed his sincere regret that the many claims upon his time prevented him from being present with the council during the day. He gave a moat interesting account of liis experience in France and Belgium during his recent tour,, and thanked the council for its congratulations upon his safe return. Ho stated that he had Men laid aside by illness in Spain, and after his recovery he had visited most or the cities of Old Spain. Italy was nest'visited, and His Grace spent • a consiaerable time in Rome. Owing' to the conditions consequent up6n tho .war, His Grace went direct from Genoa to New York, and thenoe home to New Zealand. He was pleased to hear that the-federation- had made such progress during his absence, and especially congratulated the .federation upon the defeat of thiv Bible-ill-, Schools Referendum Bill. His Grace concluded by inviting nominations for the office of chairman for the day, pending tho election of officers. It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Ellis that the Rev- Father Hurley; be elected chairman. , ... Mr. W. T. Jennings moved: That this council desires to place on record its siiir cere congratulations- to His Graco Archbishop Redwood upon his safe return to the Dominion in good health, and begs_ to thank His Grace for his address."' The motion was carried with acclamation. The annual report and balance-sheet was adopted, and satisfaction was expressed at tho sound position the federation occupied in the archdiocese. The report of the Catholic Immigration Committee was adopted, and a grant made to .the funds. The Rev. Father Daly, Chaplain at Trentliam Canip, submitted a statement showing tho cost of the building, and stated that' until the camp was tho institute was availed of to the fullest .cxt tent.' The average number-, .of..letters posted nightly was 350,. and . the Roman Catholic soldiers wero very grateful to .the federation for the facilities afforded them. The several resolutions submitted by the Executivo Committeo wero agreed to without amendment, and the remits from tho Parish Committees were also passed. Tho election of officers for the .year 1915-16 resulted as follows:—President, Archbishop Redwood; vice-presidents, Rev. Father Hurley, Mr: J. Duggan; treasurer, Mr. B. Ellis (re-elected); secretary, Mr. W. F. Johnson (re-eleoted); executive committee, Messrs.
