At the Interstate Munitions 'Conferonce, Senator Pearce (Defence Minister), who is the chairman, stated that the Ministry had decided to give authority to retain in Australia- men ivlio are fitted for the making 'of munitions. The_ Imperial authorities were sending an improved/pattern machine-gun to Australia to serve as a model for manufacture.
Mr. H. V. M'JJay announced that his London office had informed him that the .Russian Government was prepared to place a contract for a million shells with Australia. In his opinion they should not all concentrate on the making of one thing; every, articlo of defence that could be made should be produced. Mr. Earsman, representing the Amalgamated Enginers, said no restrictions would bo placed 011 munitions workers, but there would be conditions, whioli would probably be the same as those obtaining in England. The employees' interests would not be damaged by prewar conditions after the crisis. MUNITIONS FROM INDIA. STATEMENT IN BRITISH PARLIAMENT,- . ("Times" and Sydney'"Sun." Services.) London,' July 14. Dr. Addison, Undersecretary to the Munitions of War Department, interrogated ill the House of Commons,, stated that the Minister of Munitions was communicating. with the Viceroy of India, respecting the manufacture of munitions ill India. Arrangements were also beipg made with other parts of the Empire, but it was not desirable to make any further statement 011 the subject.
