" . ■ , — »- ' There wero present at Monday's meeting of. the Hutt Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors Hodgins, Meldrum, Carver, Brassell, Clendon, M'Dougall, Ball, and Hobbs. Tho secretary of the G.P.O. intimated thait in respect to the council's request for a stamp-vending machine at the Hutt, tho request could not- be complied with, as stamps could bo obtained from vendors near the G.P.0., between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., and from the bookstall ait the railway station between 8 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Mr. W. B. Hardy forwarded a list of 21 roses, presented by him for planting on tho recreation ground.
The secretary of tho Hutt Fire Brigade enclosed .£9 for donations collected by the brigade towards the Motor 'Vehicle Fund. The Wellington City Council enclosed an account for .£l9 18s. :)d., being thn council's proportion of tho maintenance of the Hutt Road to March 31 last. The communication was received, and the matter held over.
In respect to the Hutt Road Bill and the deputation of Mayors to be held this morning, Councillor M'Dougall moved, and Councillor Carver seconded: "Thai, 'his council authorises the Mayor and Town Cleric, in conjunction with other Mayors, to oppose those sections of. the Bill that aro nut in the interests of tho borough."
