MAYOR'S DISTRESS FUND

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. _ Tho Mayor (chairman), tho Rev. W. 'A'. Evans, and Messrs. H. Mostyn, and L. M. A. Rearden were present at a meeting of the Mayor's Distress Committee yesterday afternoon. Sovoral cases dealing with the payment of rent and the rendering Of temporary assistance, which had been favourably reported on,'were approved, and payments amounting to £37 15s. wore authorised to be made. In all £3668 Os. 7d. has hfiott subscribed to the. Mayor'® Distress Fund, of which amount £2500 has been placed on deposit, and is earning interest. Of that amount £685 155.-od. (which includes the sum of £37 15s. authorised to bo paid at yesterday's meeting has been disbursed, leaving a : credit of £3082 ss. 4d., £582 of which is the liquid balance.
