Jlidde.ll, t S.M., into; a certain branch of . the work of. the Defence, Department'was. the subject-of a■ question in "the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr. It. Fletcher (Wellington Central) asked whether it was a fact that a special secret inquiry was' being ' conducted by a board' of which Mr. Riddell was president, into the. administration of tho Defence Department. '. Tlie Hon. J. Allen (Minister of Defence) said, that a Departmental inquiry was proceeding. ' Mr. Fletcher: Is it, secret?
Mr. Allen; Departmental inquiries are*not'open to the public. If there is anything arising out of the inquiry it will be made public later..;
