: SOME MISAPPREHENSIONS- . REMOVED. Respecting the functions of the ' Inqniry Bureau, have been instituted by the Postalasier-General through the agency ?of the post' offices-of tne Dominion, on-.matters relating to communication with those serving at. the front, 'correct addresses, "the: cheapest form to send cables, etc, there is still some misapprehension on the-part : of the public. It has been etated that the nex£of-kin of those wounded or sick at the front have the, right to ask that three cables bo dispatched respecting the condition of such wounded or sick men, which cable messages , are sent by the Post''Office authorities to the Defence authorities •in Egypt and elsewhere, 1 according ..to where the man.concerned is located. . Mahj; people have interpreted this privilege, to be one by means of which tney'may send personal messages direct to their relatives and receive direct replies, and have gone to the trouble of putting in such messages as "Love from mother,""Wish you luck," etc., and have had to be told that such messages- cajiuot go forward through the bureau.. The privilege only extends to'the relatives of the wounded and sick, and must be only inquiries es to a man's condition. 'Now that the camp at Trentham has teen abandoned for the time/ being, and that those troops who were there have been divided into four sections, encamped .at . different: places, the Wellington Bureau.has been besieged yith inquiries for the new ■addresses ; of- troops.' , .These, as far as the; various regiments are. concerned have already appeared: m .the . public Press, but as soon as possible the bureau will have' complete lists of the men stationed in the various camps, and further, lists will, be secured as soon as possible,! stowing the .exact location of the sick men, for which numerous inquiries are,, being-made. A lady, from: Australia gives the, Government , great- praise for having insti-,. tuted .these bureaux :.-■ throughout' the country,; remarking that it is a splendid idea, and much ahead of Australia, where.it was wi tli. the utmost difficulty people coiild obtain information as to the exact whereabouts of those .whose names had appeared in the ' casualty lists.. : She -comments • in terms of the warmest, praise on the courtesy and promptitude with which any reasonably information: is supplied / the Government Bureaux in New-Zealand.
