FEJIALE SUFFRAGE IN TURKEY. I "That this Synod affirms its opinion that when tho proper time arrives for tho belligerent Powers to discuss terms of peaco tho New Zealand Government should urge the Imperial Government to' mako all-round female suffrage one of the conditions, so that peace may bo established on something like a permanent footing." This was, the text of a resolution moved by Mr. John Martin at yesterday's sitting; of the Anglican Diocesan Synod. In speaking to tho resolution, Mr. Martin contended that by giving the vote to the women of Germany it would'put an end to the military caste of Europo. .. -y! i : The Rev. E. T. W/Boiid seoonded 1 tho motion, and as a ground for so doing quoted an article by the Countess of Warwick in the "Fortnightly Review." The Vcn. Archdeacon HaTper hoped
| the, resolution.would;bo thrown out at once, otherwise it would be making thein, as a dignified Synod, look extremely ridiculous. It always been characteristic of the British-.Empiro to , allow other nations to manage their own business.• ■ •; . .Mr.. J. W. Henderson / painted a | humorous" picture of the : possible outcome of such a resolution being carried. "Just imagine," he said, "at the time of peace, the British Plenipotentiary telling the'others that Turkey. would have to grant female , suffrage— (laughter)-r-and if he were asked why he would say, 'because the; Synod of the diocese ©f Wellington said so.' " ' When!the laughter had subsided,' Mr. 6. Shirtcliffe, moved that; the Synod should: proceed to the;'nest business,' and this course was agreed to on tho' voices. _ '
