ROSE & CARNATION CLUB
■■■ The fifteenth annual report of the Wellington Rose and Carnation Club states that the club continues to make steady progress. . Though tho usual profits derived from the" Spring Show ivere handed over to the. Mayor of Wellington for distribution to the funds for patriotic relief, the year, lias proved most prosperous, whether regarded from a financial point of view, or as to increased membership."' The receipts from all sources during the year, including a balance from the previous year of £20 6s. 3d., am'ounted to 1 £413 3s. 2d., and the expenditure to £366 2s. 10d., leaving _ a credit balance of £47os. 4d. During the year nineteen new members joined the club ; and allowing for the loss by resignations, the total membership is now 189. •• The report goes on to say: "Your committee has spent a ■ considerable amount of time, in conjunction with the municipal authorities, : jn trying' to arrange a satisfactory scheme for beautifying the Zoo at Newtown Park. An excellent site is now .decided upon, and it is proposed to establish a public rose garden which will in time become a credit to the city. The City Council has undertaken to bear the cost of prepaartion and upkeep of the garden, and already offers to supply some of the necessary plants have been received from-.members of the club and from the various nurserymen." Tho Town Hall has been secured for Wednesday,-November 17, for the annual Rose Show,- and on Wednesday, .January 12, for the Carnation ana Sweet I'ea Show.
