Club-room for the Soldiers.' ' J A meeting of women interested in the successful establishment of a club for the use of thb soldiers at Trentham who from time to time visit the city is to be held_in the Y.M.C.A. rooms at 3 o'clock this afternoon. It is hoped that there will,be a large attendance to assist in forwarding this movement,' as experience has proved in the past how useful and also how very pleasant such an institution may be to all wlio make use of it. Judging from the keeii interest which many women liave already displayed in the successful formation of the club there should be no difficulty in organising it on d very practical and sound base for as long as the necessity exists, but the more there,, are to assist in every possiblo way the better it will be. Mrs. AV. F. Massey will preßide. Children's Concert. In response to many requests, the combined school-children's concert given previously in connection with tile Carnival for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund was repeated in the Town Hall last evening to an appreciative though not so large an audience as on the . other occasions. Qf all the national songs which were sung by the .children, that of the "Marseillaise" and the "Hymn to Belgium" • wero perhaps their more outstanding efforts. The soloists last night wero Miss Phoebe. -Parsons, A.R.C.M., who sang, "I Will Extol Theo" (Costa), "When .the Heart is Yonng" (Dudley Buck), and solo vorses in "Rule Britannia." Mr. JohnProuso sang, "Arm, Arm, Ye Brave" (Handel), and "Son of the Ocean Isle" (Charles Santley), and Mr. Norman Collie, Mns. Bac., F.R.C.0., contributed the Overture to "William Toll" (Rossini) oh the organ, also (a) "Serenade" and (b) "Military March" (Schubert). Mr. Bernard Page played the organ accompaniment for tho Belgian Hymn. Sir George and. Lady M'Lean arrived in Wellington from the south early this week. . Miss Haggitt-, who has been visiting AVellington, left for Dunedin on Monday. Archdeacon and Mrs. Jacob have returned to South Canterbury from a visit to Napier. Our Napier correspondent writes that the' marriage'took place yesterday in the Sacred Heart Basilica of Mr. AtahU bald Francis AViggins, eldest son of Mr. W. M. Wiggins, of Tasmania, to Miss May Frances' Watts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles AVatts, of Hastings. The wedding took place in St. Pitrick's Church,' Napier, yesterday, of Miss Helen Grant, daughter of Sir. C. Grant, of Napier, to Mr. P. Howell, of New Plymouth, soil of Mr. J. J. Howell, of Auckland. • " , Miss Doris Schattk (Napier), who has joined the "Glad Eye" Company, left Hastings yesterday en route for Sydney. : Mrs. Lamberton.left Hastings yesterday for AVellington, en route for Sydney. : The'AVellington South Nursing Division met at the 3»ewtown Library Hall on Tuesday evening for its fortnightly meeting, a fair \attendance being present. Mrs. Preston spoke'of "Haemorrhage," and then those' present'' were formed into squads to practise bandaging for the arresting of arterial haemorrhage. The secretary desires to acknowledge the following for ambulance work:—Per Miss Flanagan, £1 Os. 3d; Mrs. AVhite, 3s. 3d. Mrs. Brooke returns to Roslyn, Dunedin this week from Waikanae, where she . spent the last three months. ' 'Miss Eileen Austin .has returned to AVaikanae aftor a'long stay ia- the Rangitikei district.
A Presentation. On Tuesday evening at a meeting of the Wellington Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Association, which was held in St. John's Schoolroom, Nurse Macandrew was the recipient of. a very handsome leather writing and attache case from the members of- the division. Mrs. Moorhouse made the presentation,'-and expressed the great 'regret that all. felt at losing Nurse Macandrew, and their hope that when her wcrlc in England was done she would, on her return to this country take up hor work among them again. Mrs. E., Pearson, Mrs. Barltrop, and ' Miss llobieson also spoke in a similar strain, and Nurso Macandrew in thanking the division for its gift, expressed her great appreciation of the kind feeling sho was experiencing on all sides. There was a very large attendance of members, and after the presentation speeches Mr. Hislop, of the Wellington division, gave a demonstration of artificial respiration,: and members also had some practice in bandaging. ' Yesterday afternoon Miss Robieson gave a very pleasant little farewell tea' for Nurse Macandrew in Miss Teridall's ■tea-rooms. In addition to the guest of honour and the members of the committeeof the St. John. Nursing Guild, Mrs.: W. Young and Miss Young were present. The tea-tables ;were placed together at fine endof the room, and. were decorated with pink chrysanthemums.
The committee of the commercial travellers, who worked so successfully in connection with the of Miss Doughty for the Carnival Queen, their wives, and the members of. the Ladies' Committee were entertained by Miss Doughty, at her home at Karaka Bay last evening. A special steamer conveyed the guests to the bay, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. A bundle of fiction for tho Trenthant Cainp Library has been received at thifl offioe from Mrs. Moag-Levy. Nurse Newell, of Auckland, who was. leaving with tho Hospital Ship 011 Saturday, has had the; misfortune to be seized with illness, aud will) of course, be unable to go.' She is being replaced by Nurse Adams, who was traiued in the Dunedin Hospital. The Council of the Wellington Trained Nurses' Assqciation,' at their meeting which was held yesterday, received witE regret the resignation of Dr. Young from the presidency, owing to the fact that he is leaving on Monday for England. Much-.regret has been expressed by the council , and the nurses over their , loss, as his work for the association has been greatly valued by all. Miss Garrard, vho has been nursing at Trentham,.has returned to the City, and is staying at the Nurses' Club till sho leaves. with tho Hospital Ship on: Saturday. Recent arrivals at the Nurses Club' preparatory t<j leaving 011 Saturday withi tho Hospital Ship are Sister Tucker, from Asnburton, Nurse "Utting and Nurso Walker,, from Auckland, Miss Stubbs, matron of the. Sanatorium at! Hanmer, and Nursei. Smith, from Hawera. Sister Brandon, who has been nurs-' inn; at Trentham, lia'9 roturned to town,and is : staying with her sister, Sirs. Harty, till she leaves with the Hospital Ship. on Saturday. : Hie councillors, of the Wellington! Trained Nurses'. Association are entertaining the nurses who are'leaving with the Hospital Ship at an afternoon tea; given at the Nurses' Club, Kensington Street, on Friday afternoon. Miss Bellinghkm, president of the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association, Auckland, is visiting Wellington; and will be staying here till after .'the'.
