BIG GERMAN MOVE
ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO REACH CALAIS' HEAVY REINFORCEMENTS FROM '■' THE EASTERN. FEONT A RUSSIAN SCORE " BLOW ON p' : GERMAN FLANK ITALIANS; ADVANCING GOOD WORK BY'THE AIRSHIPS ■ - . " . " I ■ 'SIR lAN; HAMILTON'S . , narrative ' . The war iiews to-day diverts attention from the military crisis in -the Eastern-theatre'to a big concentration of German troops in Flanders, interpreted as a preparatory move, for another attempt to reach Calais. These reports are all more or less unofficial, but aro deemed to bo so pregnant with possibilities that the High Cominis l sioner has referred to tliem .in his official report; The Russians have thwarted the German advance at one point:by a blow on the enemy's flank, and. most desperate fighting is reported from-other sections of the Eastern battlefront. 'What is ' described as "terrific fighting" has • _been" proceeding in_ tho Austro-Italian theatre, where the Italians' advance, admirably seconded by efficient air reconnaissances and excellent artillery work, .is being rapidly pushed forward. A further, instalment of Sir lan Hamilton's jiamtive 'of Uhe Allies' operations in Gallipoli up till May 5, appears to-day, throwing an interesting light on /desperate assaults which were delivered by the German-officer,ed Turks, in their endeavours to drive the invaders back to the sea.-
